Chapter 7: Something Worthwhile

Be warned that this fanfic contains Marscott (Prescott x Markus) and Turbo (who is now known as Gremlin Speedo in here) from the movie “Wreck-It Ralph” as a little crossover thing to add. If you don’t like, please do not read any further.

This story takes place AFTER Epic Mickey 2 and during off-screen times.

Enjoy.

~Gremlin Speedo’s POV

“You serious?” Oswald answered back to me in less than a second. I appreciated that it was a quick response, but I wasn’t at all happy with his tone and look he was giving to me. “You…heh, you’re kidding me, right?”

“Actually, no, thire,” I corrected the solemn toon, keeping a smile on my face and standing up, “I am all-and-all one hundred perthent theriouth about my challenge to you.” He lightly face-palmed and began to explain the situation as he walked towards my kart.

“Look, Gremlin, I get that you’re new around here and that you’re aiming to give some fun to us. I appreciate that, I really do, but what I don’t appreciate is that it is an enormous distraction to us toons from repairing all the damages. Tt! look around yourself! Do you NOT see the many damages affecting the rest of us!?!” Oswald reached his arm out in gesture to show me the scenery of all of Mean Street. That got me looking around alright—very carefully, in fact. I’ve been in Wasteland for quite a while now, but I’ve never come to realize how much the whole place was as disastrous as everyone always said it was. Not only because the buildings and roads were all broken and separated, but goodness me! The toons in here—ha, ha!—they were all torn to pixelated bits! Not one of them cracked a smile, and…who could blame them? Who WOULD smile in a sight like this? And you know what? For the first time in forever, I actually cared about another world’s situation. The sudden feeling within me pulled me into another realm of instant regret and shame of the move I have just pulled off to both the world’s citizens and the king. I laid my head down embarrassingly and slowly sat back down.

No! I was NOT going to be humiliated like this! I instantly stood back up and objected to the king, “Well, I’ll have you know that I wath only trying to brighten up the thituation you all were in! Surely, you yourthelf should know that jutht becauthe a dithathtrouth thing ith happening, doethn’t mean we all have to keep frowning upon it! Ha, ha! And I don’t mean to get perthonal or anything, but here’th an ecthample, your Majethty: if one of your bunny children were to be thtuck in the hothpital, would you want him or her to frown the whole time it’d thtay in bed?”

My whole point put Oswald into silence; it even got Scotty to look up at me, too (sickly of course, because of the earlier flight). I felt proud of myself about that, and just like I wanted from the first time I became Gremlin Speedo, I felt accomplished about being a little competitive with Wasteland’s king. Ha, ha! Happened too fast, but it was about time!

“Huh…you know, you’ve got a good point,” he replied, rubbing his back head. “Okay, so, uh…hmph—what is it that you do around here?”

“Oh? Well, I’m the new caretaker of the Gag Factory,” I spoke proudly. Proudly, because I had something to tell about myself to the king here. Although, my feelings about the fact was the total opposite thus far. He gave a grin to my remark, followed by a good chuckle.

“Huh, that explains it,” he spoke aloud to me, but as he turned his head away, I heard him grumble under his breath, “that place rots the brain…” I narrowed my eyes to that, but then immediately smiled after he turned his head back to me. “Look, just take it easy from now on, okay? And, uh, just a little suggestion for you—whenever you’ve got time for yourself or whatever, you can go race with Gilda or something—”

“Duh-WUH—!?” I dropped my jaw to that. You mean to tell me, that there is actually someone around this town that liked to race!? As in…PROGRAMMED to like racing? How in the Wasteland earth did I miss THAT!?!

“What, is there a problem?” Oswald interrupted my thoughts.

“No, no, no! Not at all!” I laughed. “Ha, ha! In fact, it’s great newth for me!”

“Yeh, alright,” Oswald nodded, “if ya ever wanna go find her, she’s either in Mean Street South or MickeyJunk Mountain. Now, if ya don’t mind, Gremlin, we should all get back to work, don’t ya think?”

“Uh, yeth! Of courthe!” I nodded and sat down back in position to drive away. As I readied the kart to head off, Oswald walked away from the spot. When I drove, I took it a little slowly this time for the sake of Scotty’s current condition.

“Huh, you actually got the rabbit to change his mind,” Scotty carefully pointed out to me, trying his best to adjust himself back to normal. As he straightened himself and sat back onto his seat, from the corner of my eye, I didn’t expect to see that he’d actually make a small smile and nodded. “I’m actually quite impressed.”

“Ha, ha! It wath nothing!” I chuckled.

“Nothing, eh?” he objected, smirking at me. “Well, he’s not really an easy toon to get to think differently.”

“Like you?”

“…yes, I suppose so…”

“Ha! I’m jutht the betht there ith!”

“Oh, you know that isn’t true.”

“Don’t be getting jealouth on me, now!”

“Me? Jealous of you? HA! Who’s the one in higher position here?”

“Hey, that Gag Factory thing ith jutht the beginning for me. I’LL reach my way forward, and you’ll thee, Thcotty! Ha, ha! I’ll be ten timeth greater than you!”

“Oh, we’ll see about that!”

The whole driving trip to Ostown was filled with nothing but repetitive and competitive comebacks, later followed by laughs. I had a good feeling about this, and I felt in the pit of my code that I was ready to work in the Gag Factory properly. While driving, I wondered where the sudden happiness was coming from; either it was from the fact that Scotty was impressed with what I’ve pulled off to Oswald, or the fact that there was another character waiting to find a partner to reach the finish line with. Whatever it was, at least I had something to look forward to after all the chaos I had to go through in the Gag Factory.

---

(Ostown)

I parked my kart in front of the Gag Factory, and Scotty and I fluttered away from our seats.

“Tho!” I began. “I’ve been a little curiouth—what ith the ‘other important duty’ you’re ecthpected to work on?” Scotty looked at me with a solemn look, but not in the way where it’d make me feel uncomfortable. What he was telling me through his eyes was something that was definitely important, perhaps something SO important that everyone was counting on him for whatever job had to be done. The sight only made my heart race with excitement and my head filled with more curiosity.

“Well, to begin with,” he sighed, “the Mad Doctor has somehow broken out of his prison.”

“Heh, he probably glitched hith way out or thomething,” I chuckled to myself.

“So, Gus assigned me the opportunity to create something that’ll drive the Mad Doctor and his evil schemes away.”

“Aaand, how ecthactly are you going to pull that off?” I questioned, making my way into the Gag Factory building, with Scotty following behind. (Ha, he’s actually interested in keeping this somewhat conversation with me).

“I’m not exactly sure yet,” he admitted, but then pompously assured, “but I am the genius here, so I’ll come up with something eventually.” I smirked and shook my head to that. “What, you don’t believe me?”

“Oh, it’th not that I don’t believe you,” I pointed out, “it’th jutht that, you know…you’re technically fighting with another geniuth here, playing with fire. Heh, probably even a greater geniuth at that—”

“Don’t you dare state that he is greater than I!” he shot out at me. I widened my eyes and instantly raised both my hands up from his sudden mood.

“Well, YOU were the one that got hypnotithed by him—!” I pointed a finger at him, but then stopped speaking—his eyes widened. I wasn’t sure about whether he was going to flip, or whether he was in a sudden trance of something. Whatever it was, he immediately flew out of the building and teleported away. Hoohoo, that flight sure took a little breeze in; it was probably the fastest I’ve seen from him. Was he in a rush or did he want to leave immediately because he was going to break down? Ha, ha! What a weakling…

~Gremlin Prescott’s POV

(The Dioramas)

“Abe!” I shouted out gleefully as I flew through the train tunnels into the dioramas. “You’ve got to hear this!”

“Oh, good evening, Prescott sir!” I heard Abe’s voice emanating from the speakers. “Ha, it’s been a while since I’ve heard you this excited.” I continued to fly through the dioramas until I finally came across Abe’s mechanical body.

This place definitely wasn’t a place I’ve forgotten about, being that I was the one who built it. As you can imagine, the whole place was created to depict the mouse’s fierce battles against the Blot. Back in the day, I was actually proud of the whole idea, and, proud of even the mouse himself…

That shouldn’t be a matter to speak of. As I was saying—thanks to the code room, Abe and the dioramas were able to function, even with the quakes occurring from time to time.

“So, what’s going on?” Abe asked me. I fluttered beside him and began to explain, keeping a grin to my face.

“You’ve heard about the Mad Doctor’s breakout, right?”

“Goodness me! I haven’t! Well, uh, let me in on it!” Abe placed his microphone a few inches in front of my face, so that I was able to communicate with him properly. He had the capacity of hearing and transmitting messages from others to himself, but allowing toons to speak through his microphone happened to be a habit of his, so…

“Well, Gus has assigned me on a very important duty on taking care of this likely dangerous event, and I know exactly what to do to pull it off. Only this time…” I stayed in silence for a while to fill the whole area with suspense for both Abe and I. He looked around in confusion, and I finally spoke, “…it won’t be as big as you and I would normally expect from myself.”

“Oh, do you mean take things in the simpler route?”

“Yes, Abe, precisely. Firstly…” I looked below myself—my belt, specifically. I buckled it up in gesture to show Abe exactly what I was planning. “…this will finally be of good use to me.”

“Oh, sir!” Abe gasped and covered his mouth, as if in shock. “You don’t mean—?”

“Oh, no, no, no, Abe!” I immediately interrupted and shook my head, trying to calm his nerves, or wires. “I’m not going to use it for THAT! Certainly not!” He immediately placed his hand on his chest and panted in relief. If you must know, every gadget I was wearing, from the belt to the backpack, was all supposed to function as a bomb whenever I'd make the decision to push the red button upon my glove. But now with everything going so perfectly well for me—with the code room, with me being Gus’s right hand man (how many times have I said that now?), and Markus being out of the hospital—did Abe honestly think that I would take my own life away?

“Oh, thank goodness! Ha, you got me there, sir!” he chuckled to himself. “So, uh…what is your plan with that, then?” He, again, placed his microphone in front of me. I breathed in to speak, and I told him of what I had in store for the Mad Doctor to face, and for everyone else to witness.

~Gremlin Speedo’s POV

(Four hours later; Gremlin Village)

It was eight in the evening, the closing time of Ostown, and the beginning of my off-shift hour. I still had the thought of meeting up with that Gilda character and show off my racing skills with and against her, but as of now, I was bushed and wanted to head “home” right away. Besides, tomorrow was the weekend, so I’ll have plenty of time with spending some quality time for myself! As I was just a few yards away from, err, Scotty’s house, wouldn’t you know? In the nick of time, Scotty fluttered beside me from outta nowhere.

“Oh, hello, there!” I greeted as I jumped up and began to flutter along as well. “Where have you been all thith time? Thlacking off? Ha, ha! Or were you crying your eyeth out, huh? Hoo, hoo, hoo!”

Scotty didn’t look pleased with my questions. He breathed in to speak, but we both then heard a voice from behind us calling out to him. We turned and saw that it was the darker purple suited gremlin. If I remembered correctly, this one was named Markus? Oh, yeah! He was that one gremlin Scotty switched codes with on his rival. Right, he was Scotty’s friend.

Without any hesitation, Scotty fluttered right to him without giving any thought of telling me to “hold on” or “wait a moment”. I felt insulted from that, but I only sighed and turned my full body around. I crossed my arms and fluttered in place, waiting for Scotty to get back to the subject. I kept lip-speaking and mocking everything Markus and Scotty kept saying to each other, but, something didn’t feel quite right about doing so. Was it because Scotty was actually speaking in a sweet voice to that other gremlin? Ha, ha! I didn’t know he had the capacity to give himself this kind of tone to his voice. I slowly turned my head and instantly regretted my curiosity.

My eyes widened to the sight of what they were doing. I saw Scotty’s hands rubbing onto Markus’s waist, and Markus’s arms around Scotty’s shoulders. I instantly turned my head away and didn’t want to know what they were doing next. I felt my face flush and heated up with pure disgust. It was the kind of image that one simply couldn’t “unsee”. From what I’ve witnessed just a couple of seconds ago, it all came clear to me—Scotty and this Markus gremlin weren’t just friends…

“Good night, Prescott,” I heard Markus’s voice softly speaking to Scotty. I couldn’t get myself of wanting to hear anymore, so I just waited and pretended nothing was going on behind me. You know what? I had enough, my questions to Scotty were still at matter!

“THCOTTY!” I shouted out and immediately turned around. “We gotta go!” I thought this would immediately silence them, but instead, made matters worse for my mentality. Markus’s eyes widened at me, as if he was a little disturbed. Was he thinking about what I thought he was thinking? N-NO! I didn’t want to stop them from their conversation because of my “needs”! Ha, ha! I simply just couldn’t go on with my questions still in hand. They probably weren’t that important, but I didn’t want to be left hanging! You stupid gremlin! Stop looking at me like that!

“Ecthuthe me, there,” I calmed myself and gave a little smile, “I wath only athking Thcotty here a few questionth, and you happened to interrupt uth.” I was afraid that it only made things sound worst, but he instantly apologized.

“I’m terribly sorry there, uhh—”

“His name’s Speedo,” Scotty spoke for me. I meant to answer myself first, and I felt a little angry to him beating me to it. “Listen, Markus,” he started to explain. This was going to take a while, so I decided to place myself back onto the ground to rest my feet. He said stuff to him like “I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you before” this, and “Gus forced this upon us” that. Of course none of them went exactly like that, but I couldn’t care less.

“Oh, so that’s the one appointed to the Gag Factory, huh?” Markus chuckled and turned his head to me. “Ha! Well, it’s nice to meet ya!” He hovered towards me and reached his hand out to me. You know, even after the disturbing images that were instantly shoved into my head, I couldn’t help but smile to this one’s kind attitude towards me. Compared to Scotty, Markus’s code here felt a lot more welcoming.

“Hoo, hoo!” I giggled and shook his hand frantically. After a couple of shakes, I let go and bowed down to him. Well, not in a way to give respect to him, but in a way where I approved of his presence. “It’th a pleasure to meet you, too.”

“Alright, you guys,” Scotty interrupted us, getting me to stand back up. “As cold as this may sound, we should probably part from here.”

“D’aw, you’re no fun! It’th the weekendth tomorrow!” I pointed out.

“Not to us, it isn’t,” he replied to me, keeping a firm face to me. He then turned to Markus and held onto both of his hands. Yeah, yeah, good night this, good night that, blah, blah, blah…

Finally, Markus fluttered away to his own house, and Scotty hovered beside me. To my disappointment, he didn’t bring the subject I questioned a few moments back. He stayed quiet, but he seemed content with what happened earlier. For the fun of it, I wanted to break his calm state, and I asked the same questions straight away.

“Tho, Thcotty,” I began as I lifted myself from the ground and fluttered, “what have you been doing thith whole time? Hoo, hoo! Thlacking off? Crying your problemth away?” He turned to me and his face instantly changed from being okay to being aggravated. Instead of being disturbed, though, I continued to smile through it, being that it was intentional for me to let that happen.

“On the contrary, Speedo,” he replied, “I was busy working on a new invention of mine to help stop the Mad Doctor. Ehh, I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘new’ invention, but I certainly didn’t make one of them before…” His conversational tone seemed to help cool his nerves, which I guess was for the best at the moment.

“One of what?” I asked, tilting my head.

“Oh, you’ll see when it’s finished,” he answered and smirked to me. To put my curiosity aside, I decided to look back at how the day went. To think how my reluctance to working at the Gag Factory transformed into confidence with my skills on entertaining characters, I have to say, this day went by pretty smoothly. Scotty’s yawns instantly interrupted my thoughts.

“This day went by too fast,” he sighed. “but I’m glad it’s over…”

“Are you kidding me?” I objected as I spread my arms out in joy. “Thith day turned out WAY better than I thought it would be!”

---

~Gremlin Prescott’s POV

Speedo’s happiness was a little troublesome for me to be able to maintain my sanity, but it was somehow a little contagious. I gave a smile to his point, looking back as to how I was able to confront Speck and push him away, put my genius to the test with Speedo’s kart, and coming up with a brilliant plan to go against the Mad Doctor.

I can’t say “no” to that… was all I could think of from Speedo’s objection. We made it to my house, with Speedo immediately planting himself onto the couch and me heading to my own room. I couldn’t say that this was exactly the best day, but it was enough to keep me from frowning in disappointment. It was something worthwhile, and I was definitely looking forward to what may come to us in the next day.

I have a pretty god idea on what Prescott's invention is...
And the Marscott scene was so cute! Too bad it was Turbo's POV, though, even though it did make the sweet scene somewhat funny... XD
